J. Patrick Johnson, M.D., coauthored the peer-reviewed article, Augmented Reality in Spinal Surgery: Highlights From Augmented Reality Lectures at the Emerging Technologies Annual Meetings which was published in the online medical journal, Cureus.
The article examines the current and future direction of the use of augmented reality in spine surgery and is based on information presented over the last five years of the Seattle Science Foundation’s Annual REETN conferences.
The findings suggest that, as AR continues to advance, it may emerge as technique that is superior to other guidance methods, in that it allows the operating surgeon to focus directly on the patient rather than a guidance screen.
